Our speaker this month is Mike VanLaan.
After graduating from the United States Air Force Academy, Mike served as a pilot for the United States Air Force and for the Michigan Air National Guard for over 20 years. During that time, Mike accumulated over 3500 flight hours, flying the T-38 Talon, F-15 Eagle, A-37 Dragonfly, and the A-10 Warthog aircraft. He has flown combat missions over Iraq and the former Yugoslavia. He also flew as a commercial pilot for United Parcel Service (UPS) for 18 years, flying the Boeing 757, 767, and 747, along with the McDonnell Douglas MD-11, and the Airbus A300.
Mike has authored three books: "Views From Above" (a book of devotionals), "Stories Worth Telling" (somewhat of an autobiography), and "A History of the Airplanes Flown in the Battle Creek Air National Guard ... and the pilots that flew them".
He is currently retired, living in Alto, Michigan, with his wife of 45+ years. His retirement "job" is officiating high school boys’ lacrosse in the spring, and high school and small college football in the fall. Mike and his wife are active members of Ada Bible Church.
